Wealth Building Wednesday: Rewriting Your Money Story

Image
Stories are the operating systems that run our brains, often making decisions for us before we’re even aware we’ve made them. It’s the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and how things work that drive the emotions we experience and the behaviors we choose based on those things. If you find that you’re constantly struggling with money, it’s time to examine – and rewrite – your money story. Early Experiences with Money Shape Beliefs around Money “We can’t afford that” and “we don’t have enough money” were common stories I heard when I was growing up about why my family couldn’t afford something I needed or wanted.  The reason, I was told, that we didn’t have enough was that we didn’t make enough money. I learned from my mother that some people were “rich” and had more than enough and that some people, like us, were “poor” and didn’t have enough. Rich people were rich because they made lots of money and could afford to buy whatever they needed or wanted – which is ...

Marketing Monday: Be an Honest Representative

Image
During this past week, I spent some time going back over my marketing training from North Node Solutions. It covers copywriting for Facebook and other social media platforms. In it, I was reminded of the importance of marketing with integrity, about being an honest representative of any product, service, or company that I am marketing. Making Money without Integrity Will Steal Your Peace of Mind Marketing is powerful. It can persuade people to do things that can destroy their lives, such as smoking cigarettes or drinking sodas, or it can persuade people to do things that will save their lives and preserve their health. It's important to understand that power and to respect it. As Chris, the head of North Node Solutions, pointed out, marketing without integrity is a fast way to destroy your own peace of mind. You'll end up wasting time worrying about when people will find out that you're a fraud or that you've been selling them out and whether they are going to come afte...

Sales & Systems Saturday: Selling on Social Media

Image
Selling on social media platforms like Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Reddit, and Instagram happens everyday. People go there and buy products. But it’s important to remember that buying products isn’t the reason they go there. They go there to be social. That’s why it takes a different approach to be successful when selling on social media. Here are 5 tips to help you do it. 1.       Understand the Purpose of the Platform What is the platform’s purpose? Why does it exist? The purpose of the platform changes not only the type of audience you can expect to find there but what they will expect in terms of social interactions. You need a very different strategy on LinkedIn than you do on Facebook or Pinterest. 2.       Be Social, Not Salesy Direct sales tactics DO NOT WORK on social media sites because this isn’t a one-to-one conversation. It’s a one-to-many conversation. Imagine some guy coming to a pool party...

Wealth Building Wednesdays: Expsenses versus Investments

Image
One of the most important skills that someone who desires to build wealth must learn is how to distinguish between an expense and investment. The super-wealthy don’t spend money on expenses. Even when it looks like they are spending frivolously, they are investing in making themselves more money. An Expense An expense is something you spend money on that will not grow your bank account. It is a purchase that may be a necessity or it feels good in the moment but ultimately is not going to profit you. If you spend $600 on a purse, and you are spending it because you want to impress people, that’s an expense. It’s not going to make you money. It’s not going to help you get closer to your goals. It’s not even going to impress the people you want to impress. Buying a t-shirt or a purse or a pair of shoes that promotes someone else’s brand or carries their logo is an expense. The only thing it’s going to do is add dollars to their wallet, not yours. Truly wealthy people do not buy things to ...

Wealth-Building Wednesdays: How the Rich Get Richer

Image
It was 2016 and I was just starting my business writing books for other people. I was speaking with my very first client, Suria. She was a multi-millionaire and serial entrepreneur who’d made and lost more money than I had ever seen in my lifetime. Suria grew up in poverty, just like I had, but found her way to wealth and success at a time in my life where I was struggling just to put food on the table. As she shared her story with me, I began to learn more about why it is the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. Five Things the Rich Do Differently It really came down to five things that the rich do differently than the poor do. Once you understand why these five things make such a difference, you’ll begin to see – as I did – why it is the rich keep growing richer and you can then change your life to start growing in the direction you want to go. 1.       Rich people are always learning. I’ve never yet met someone who has built a lot of money and d...

Marketing Monday: The Basics of Marketing

Image
On Friday, I mentioned that I'd found a way for readers of this blog to  make money promoting the products  offered by  Project FED  which will also support the Nigerian orphans. During my  Sunday Strategy post yesterday , and in today's  YouTube video tutorial  of how to sign up for Zazzle's affiliate program so that those who are interested can make money promoting the products, I promised I would start teaching the basics of marketing so that those who are interested are supported in their efforts. Marketing: The Right Way Many people THINK they know what marketing is, and most of them are wrong. Most people, when they picture marketing, think of Don Draper from  Mad Men . They think of a sleazy guy who will tell you whatever he thinks you want to hear in order to get you to buy a product you don't need and that may not even be good for you. They also think of ad campaigns on TV and Radio, Superbowl commercials, and billboards. Those are...
