Thanksgiving Thursday: Week 2 Updates

Image
It’s time for Thanksgiving Thursday where we pause a moment to recognize our progress and celebrate our successes and our supporters. We officially started Project FED 16 days ago, and while our website is still a work in progress we have a lot of reasons to celebrate. Celebrating A Sustained Success Despite it being two weeks since we last posted a video on YouTube , something I definitely need to correct, I am proud that we have maintained page 1 ranking for Google using the keywords Project Fed Nigeria. I believe this is due to the name of our YouTube Channel being Project FED Nigeria. I am going to test a few things out to see whether I am right about that, but if that is the case it is extremely helpful information to know as it will help us moving forward. Celebrating Support Last week, I honored our Chief Financial Officer , Rita Larrivee. While we don’t yet have any finances to manage, just knowing that she is ready to step up and handle the task when the time ...

Tuesday Time Management: Why Focus on Time

Image
Time is the 2 nd most valuable currency in existence. With it, you can acquire any other kind of wealth you desire.  However, there are no refunds and no exchanges. Once you’ve spent your time, you cannot get it back.  You will either live with the regrets of having spent time poorly, or you will reap the benefits of having spent it wisely. The Purpose of Time Management Time management’s purpose is the same as it is with financial management: watching what gets spent and where so that you’re making the most of everything you get and are making steady progress toward achieving your desired goals and outcomes with what you’ve been given. By taking control of your time, you begin to take control over your life and start making conscious decisions about where you want to be in the next 5, 10, 15, or 25 years. Little decisions today add up to big changes tomorrow. Why Project FED Teaches Time Management You may be wondering what time management and Project FED have to do with one...

Marketing Monday: The Basics of Marketing

Image
On Friday, I mentioned that I'd found a way for readers of this blog to  make money promoting the products  offered by  Project FED  which will also support the Nigerian orphans. During my  Sunday Strategy post yesterday , and in today's  YouTube video tutorial  of how to sign up for Zazzle's affiliate program so that those who are interested can make money promoting the products, I promised I would start teaching the basics of marketing so that those who are interested are supported in their efforts. Marketing: The Right Way Many people THINK they know what marketing is, and most of them are wrong. Most people, when they picture marketing, think of Don Draper from  Mad Men . They think of a sleazy guy who will tell you whatever he thinks you want to hear in order to get you to buy a product you don't need and that may not even be good for you. They also think of ad campaigns on TV and Radio, Superbowl commercials, and billboards. Those are...

Project FED: Making Progress - Day 2

Image
Yesterday , I introduced you to   Project FED , my effort to help Father Lucas raise money for the three orphanages he supports in Nigeria. It took me all day yesterday to try and find the right home for an online shop where I could sell the designs that I am creating to use in the campaign, but I finally set up shop on   Zazzle .  We got our first email signup for Project FED as well as the first volunteer to help keep our momentum going. It may be a small gain in the relative scope of things, but every giant redwood tree began as a small seed, so I have confidence that if I keep up the work, we will keep up the momentum. Today's Work   It is my husband's birthday and Wednesday, which is my day to celebrate my husband's life and my granddaughter's. I won't, therefore, get the chance to do a lot of work on Project FED.  However, I have spent the morning hours creating several different products and setting up a Pinterest account  specifically for sho...

Introducing Project FED

Image
The Story Behind the Project I met Father Lucas through some Facebook friends more than a year ago. He lives in a small village in northern Nigeria. Part of his parish includes 3 orphanages filled with children of many different ages. He struggles to get the funding to care for them. At the time, I was working a reliable freelance marketing contract and was making decent money doing it. I sent him money from time to time to help support his ministry. Toward the end of April, I got an idea. What if I had him collect some art from the children at those orphanages and I used my design and marketing skills to help him raise the money by creating products such as fabric designs and housewares and t-shirts that featured the artwork?  I made the suggestion to Father. He told me he'd work on it.  Life-Changing Circumstances In the meantime, on May 11th, I got quite a shock. The contract I'd been working on for the past three years ended suddenly and without notice.  That w...
