Strategy Sunday: Overcoming the Obstacles

It doesn't matter how good your product, service, business, or project happens to be if nobody knows about it. Last week’s Strategy Sunday was a lesson in defeating discouragement that led to a rush of creativity that following week. You can find out more about that by reading about our Creativity Challenge. Today’s Strategy Sunday is a lesson in being a vessel that carries good news out into the world.

I Struggle with Communication and Connection

Most people who read my work find this hard to believe but communicating with others is not my strength. That’s actually what led me to become a writer.

I need time to process my thoughts and to put into words the things I’m thinking and feeling in a way that doesn’t hurt others. When I’m writing, my words flow smoothly but when I’m speaking off the cuff, the words that fly out of my mouth are rarely received the way I intend them to be.

I also struggle with staying connected to people. I have a tendency to be a hands-off kind of person and I don’t reach out to people often. I’m working to change that aspect of myself, because neither of these two things is working in my favor in trying to launch Project FED.

Every Business Failure Is a Relationship Failure in Disguise

Michael Port’s book, Book Yourself Solid, contained one of the most influential quotes of my life: “Every business failure is a relationship failure in disguise.” And I can see this reflected in Project FED.

While I am actively posting on my social media accounts, I’m not reaching out directly to all the contacts and connections I’ve formed over the years to let them know about the Project and how it seeks to help others. I’m not asking for their support or giving them reasons to be a supporter. I’m, in essence, keeping the good news about Project FED to myself and that is why it’s not catching on like it could.

Focusing on Communication and Connection

This week, I’ll be focusing on Communicating and Connecting with others because that’s an area I know many people struggle with when they are starting out. They don’t know what to say or how to say it, and they don’t have a system set up so that they can effectively deliver their message to all the people they want to hear it.

Emails are great, but they are not enough. Social media posts are great, but they are not enough. This is a system that will work best when delivered with sincere care for others through personal invitation. It’s not about what you can get from the people around you but what you can give them.

What’s Your Struggle? Where Do You Need Help?

It’s always a challenge to open up about where we struggle and need help, but the rewards of doing so are that we are sometimes surprised by how much help we have available to us if we let others know we need it. I encourage you to comment below and let us know. We’ll see what we can do to put together a plan that gets you what you need.
