Strategy Sunday: Work for What Matters
The Prayer Request
Here is what I wrote: “Today is Strategy Sunday and I come
and lay Project FED at your feet. I have made no progress. I have made no
sales. Not one of my efforts has borne fruit. Help me to figure out where I am
going wrong and to correct my course accordingly.”
I then went through a list of people I knew who needed
prayers and laid them at the foot of the cross and asked for help balancing
their needs with my own, something I’ve been struggling to do.
The Answer in Scripture
Today’s Mass readings are taken from Exodus 16, Psalm 78,
Ephesians 4, and John 6.
In Exodus, the Israelites are complaining about having no
bread or meat to eat. They’re looking back on their days in Egypt and they are
missing what they had, then grumbling about their lack of it there in the
desert.
God doesn’t chastise them for their grumbling and
complaining at this point. He knows they don’t really trust Him yet, even
though He’s already worked many signs and wonders to get them to freedom.
Instead, He rains down bread from Heaven and fills their camps with quail.
Trust in the Lord and He will provide in due season, literally
“raining it down” on us.
Psalm 78 is a celebration of the Lord giving us bread from
Heaven, taking care of our needs and shepherding us to the Land of Plenty.
Ephesians 4 calls us to stop living as if we were not
believers and instead to renew our minds in the spirit so that we begin to live
the new life that Christ wants for us, a life where we work for Him and what He
has to offer rather than working for perishable goods and things that don’t
satisfy.
In the Gospel of John chapter 6, Jesus spells it out for us
clearly and concisely, telling us to “stop working for food that perishes, but
for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give us.”
He later goes on to say that He is the Bread of Life, whoever comes to Him will
never hunger and whoever believes in Him will never thirst.
I am starting to get the picture. Those who work for what
doesn’t satisfy never have their fill, while those whose labor is for Christ
are satisfied even when they have little.
These words are reminding me to refocus on the true mission
of Project FED, and stop focusing on the sales. What is needed will come from
the Lord when He determines the time is right, and it will come without me
laboring for it as long as I am obedient in what I do.
The True Mission of Project FED
To demonstrate the quantifiable benefits of service to those
in need by helping those who serve the orphans in Nigeria gain a profit from
their labor; and to encourage and inspire creative acts of service to those in
need by others through the work we do.
The Vision of Project FED
To help low or no-income earners who doubt that they can
make meaningful contributions because of their financial status get the tools,
training, and resources needed to make passive income promoting products that
support orphans in Nigeria, thus demonstrating to them their ability is not
dependent upon their financial means but upon their willingness to take action
in their current capacity.
The Core Values of Project FED
1.
Love first, love second, love last. Let us love
one another not in word but in truth and in action. Everything we do should be
done as an act of love – love for our customers, love for our affiliates, love
for our partners, love for our competitors, and love for our communities.
2.
Service at all stages. Service is the means by
which the love we proclaim is proven to be genuine and real.
3. Faithfulness to Christ and to Our Mission. If it does not serve Christ or our mission, we do not do it. It doesn’t matter how good or how worthy the project might seem, Christ and our Mission come first.
I will be moving these to their own page shortly, but this
is our strategy for this week: To focus on what truly matters and allow the
rest to take care of itself.
